Admissions Requirements

All students must be high school graduates or have successfully earned a GED. Students will be asked to provide copies of their diploma or GED, photo ID, and another form of ID. If student doesn’t have a GED, placement tests may be administered depending on the training requested.

Prerequisite

All students enrolled in the Medical Assistant program must be vaccinated for Hepatitis B prior to beginning their externships. Students enrolled in the Certified Nurses Aide program must have a two step Mantoux prior to starting class. Some programs require a MMR vaccination and a physical.

Course Offerings

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

This course is designed to prepare individual to work with the elderly in nursing homes. Course consists of 50 classroom and 40 clinical hours; this state approved course will prepare students for the NJ DHSS skill and written exam. We are approved by the New Jersey Department of Education/Dept. of Labor, the Department of Health and Senior Services.

Program Length: 90 hours; 5 weeks
Daytime classes: Monday – Thursday 9:00AM – 2:00PM
Evening classes: Monday – Thursday 6:00PM – 10:00PM

Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA)

This course provides training in patient care in the home. Our Home Health Aide curriculum covers all competencies required by the board of Nursing of the State of New Jersey, i.e. basic human needs, the home environment prevention and safety, basic concepts of child and the elderly care, how to handle issues related to mental health, and terminally ill patients.

Upon completion of this course you will receive a certification from the New Jersey Board of Nursing.

Program Length: 76 hours; 4 weeks

Certified Nurse Assistant / Certified Home Health Aide (CNA/CHHA)

This course consists of two components providing students with a dual opportunity to work in nursing home, long-term care facility and other senior facilities as well as caring for a patient at home. One in Certified Home Health Aide and the second component being Certified Nurse Aide covering all competencies required by the board of Nursing, i.e. basic human needs, the home environment prevention and safety, basic concepts of child and the elderly care, how to handle issues related to mental health, and terminal ill patients. Upon completion of this course you will receive a certification from the New Jersey Dept. of Nursing.

Program Length: 216 hours; 9-10 weeks

Certified Home Health Aide / Office Administration

This course consists of two components providing students with a dual opportunity.
First in Office Administrator basic training on the most recent computer software and the
second Component being Certified Nurse Aide covering all competencies required by
the board of Nursing, i.e. basic human needs, the home environment prevention and
safety, basic concepts of child and the elderly care, how to handle issues related to
mental health and terminal ill. 

Upon completion of this course you will receive a certificate in Office Administration and a certification from the New Jersey Dept. of Nursing.

Medical Assistant

This course is designed to prepare students for careers as Medical Assistants. The students will receive extensive clinical training through lecture and hands on techniques under the supervision of a Medical Professional. Clinical procedures and techniques will include: Principals of asepsis and infection control, vital signs, collecting, processing and testing urinalysis, obtaining and mounting EKG’s, administering various injections, collecting and processing blood specimens, legal and ethical issues, and managing the medical office. Students are also required to complete a supervised clinical externship at a medical facility.

Upon completion of this course students will receive a certificate in Medical Assistant, and will also be eligible to take the National exam.

Phlebotomy/EKG Technician

This course is designed to prepare students to become skilled entry level technicians. The core curriculum will cover medical terminology, anatomy, physiology of the cardiovascular system, composition of blood and interpretation of basic EKG recordings.  After completion of this program graduates are eligible and encouraged to take the national certification exam. This national recognized certification will enhance employment opportunities.

BMCC is an approved testing site for the National Health career Association (NHA).

Medical Administration Assistant

This medical assistant course is designed to prepare students to assist medical providers by performing administrative duties and basic clinical duties in an office and/or a medical facility.  The core curriculum covers a variety of subjects including medical practice, medical law and ethics, medical communications, medical records, insurance, patient preparation, basic laboratory procedures and tests.  Students are also required to complete a supervised externship at a medical facility.

After completing this program graduates are eligible and encouraged to take the certified medical administrative assistants (CMAA) exam that is offered by the National Health career Association (NHA).  This nationally recognized certification will enhance employment opportunities.

Medical Office Administration

This course is designed to give the student a comprehensive career in Office Administration, Medical Billing and Coding. Training in basic computers, Medical Billing and Coding with externships allow students to experience working in Medical Facility. These combined courses provide an atmosphere that will make the transition from the classroom to the health care environment easier. Students will be able to work in a variety of medical office environments where billing and coding skills are required office duties. Upon completion of this course you will receive 2 certificates, one in Office Administration and one Medical Billing & Coding. They will also be eligible to take the N.H.A. Exam for Billing and Coding Specialist.

Medical Billing and Coding (accelerated course)

This course is designed to provide accelerated individuals with previous computer skills.
The classes give an opportunity to upgrade their skills by learning Medical Billing and Coding. Students will prepare for jobs in the Medical Office, Medical Diagnostic Centers, Hospitals, Clinics and various Insurance Facilities. This is recommended for those with experience in billing. Upon completion of this course you will receive a certificate in Medical Billing/Coding.

Office Administration

This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to upgrade their knowledge by learning the most resent business software applications. Students will prepare for jobs in corporate environments that require the ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel; work on and design spreadsheets, develop and manage databases, presentations, create and update web pages.

Upon completion of this course you will receive a certificate in Office Administration.
